Meet the Crown Paving Team

Abe Awad studied Finance and Political Science at American University before beginning his career on Wall Street and later owning and operating a successful restaurant business. Yet his fascination with asphalt began long before that. At just seven years old, Abe vividly remembers watching his father have their driveway seal coated, an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for paving. By twelve, he was mesmerized watching a local crew pave a Lowe’s parking lot and begged his father to stay and watch. Two years later, he stood on the same pavement as professionals paved one of his family’s restaurant lots, solidifying a dream that never left him. Though his early career took him into the world of finance and business, Abe’s heart always remained on the job site. He believed that with a touch of professionalism, a lot of grit, and a relentless focus on white-glove service, the paving industry could be transformed. Determined to do just that, he started from the ground up, literally, by taking a job as a shovel man to learn the trade firsthand. In January 2021, Abe took the leap and founded Crown Paving. By March, the company had completed its first project, and it’s been full speed ahead ever since. Today, Crown Paving stands as a testament to Abe’s vision, combining blue-collar execution with white-collar precision to redefine what clients can expect from a paving contractor.

Steve brings a wealth of leadership experience to Crown, shaped by his time as a C-suite executive at TruFit Athletic Clubs, Caliber Auto Care, ProBuild, and Giant Cement Holdings, Inc. He is passionate about building high performance teams, streamlining operations, and creating environments where people and businesses thrive. Outside of work, Steve enjoys golfing, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Mike brings 27 years of asphalt and concrete experience and serves as General Manager. His leadership is grounded in a strong operational background, strategic project oversight, and a hands-on understanding of the industry. He began his career as a laborer in his teens and worked through every level of paving operations before moving into management. Since joining the team four years ago, Mike has helped strengthen the company’s reputation for delivering projects on time and within budget. Outside of work, Mike enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Darren brings over 32 years of experience in the road construction and asphalt paving industry. He began his career as a service truck driver and steadily worked his way up to his current role as Operations Manager. Darren is passionate about mentoring others in the field, sharing his knowledge, and guiding the next generation of paving professionals. Outside of work, Darren enjoys traveling and riding his Harley Street Glide with his wife. He also enjoys spending time with his seven children and granddaughter.

Sabrina has worked as an office administrator and in loss prevention across various industries, bringing over five years of experience with the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. At Crown, she manages day-to-day office operations, ensuring crews are fully supported in the field for projects to run smoothly. Outside of work, Sabrina enjoys spending time with her daughter and traveling.

Cody holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and is a certified machinist with 15 years of experience repairing equipment. Outside of work, Cody enjoys outdoor activities and music.

Davis earned his degree in Mathematics from NC State University and takes pride in ensuring every project exceeds client expectations. Outside of work, he enjoys watching sports and spending time with friends and family.

Jackson holds a degree in Economics from East Carolina University. He manages estimating and project coordination for a diverse range of clients with a strong focus on precision and client satisfaction. Committed to Crown Paving’s white glove standard, Jackson ensures every project is completed with care and excellence. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, skiing, attending sporting events, and spending time with friends and family.

Jack earned his degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management from East Carolina University’s College of Business. He oversees projects from start to finish, ensuring clients receive the company’s signature white glove service. Jack is passionate about operational efficiency and strong client relationships. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, golf, skiing, and spending time at the beach.

Jack earned his degree in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He manages client requests, develops project estimates, and oversees on-site execution to ensure quality and efficiency at every stage of a project. Outside of work, Jack enjoys skiing, golfing, and traveling.

Before beginning his career in commercial construction, Garrett proudly served five years in the United States Marine Corps, followed by another five years in law enforcement. Today, he brings that same dedication, discipline, and professionalism to every project, delivering exceptional white-glove service and creating an outstanding experience for every customer. Outside of work, Garrett enjoys spending time with his wife and children or training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Michael began his career with Crown Paving in 2021 as a member of the paving crew. In April 2025, he returned to Crown Paving as an Estimator and Project Manager after gaining valuable experience as the owner of a waste management company. Outside of work, Michael enjoys spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and snow skiing.

Jeremy is a graduate of UNC Charlotte and serves as an Estimator and Project Manager while also supporting business development efforts across the Southeast. He values building strong client relationships and takes pride in ensuring every project runs smoothly from start to finish. Outside of work, Jeremy enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and exploring the outdoors.

Fabian began his journey in asphalt at just 13 years old, starting out as a shovel man. Over the years, he has worked his way up through every level of the trade, gaining deep expertise across multiple roles. Today, Fabian leads his crew with pride, precision, and a commitment to exceptional workmanship. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

Jody brings over 15 years of experience in asphalt, seal coating, and striping. He is married with four daughters, and together they share a love for dogs, with seven in the family. Outside of work, Jody’s favorite place to be is at the beach.

Ovidio has been in the industry for two years and has quickly proven himself as a reliable and skilled leader. He consistently guides his crews to complete projects with Crown Paving’s signature white glove standard. Outside of work, Ovidio enjoys relaxing at the beach and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Terry brings over 30 years of asphalt experience, having worked across the Charlotte area in a wide range of roles. As one of the original members of Crown, Terry has played a critical role in the company’s growth and success from day one. Outside of work, Terry enjoys spending time with his family.

Xander is pursuing a degree in Engineering at UNC Charlotte and serves as an Estimator and Project Manager at Crown Paving. He is passionate about asphalt and dedicated to ensuring every project is completed to the highest standard. Outside of work, Xander enjoys Muay Thai, soccer, and spending time with his family.

Marco joined Crown in 2023 when operations expanded into Virginia and has since relocated to North Carolina. He brings years of experience leading crews to deliver quality work in a timely manner. Outside of work, Marco enjoys spending time with his wife and son.
