Chick-fil-A Paving Project, Concord NC

Completed paving at Chick-fil-A on Vinehaven Drive, Concord NC

This one is two jobs on one site. The larger part, 29,242 square feet, was built from the base up: 1,463 tons of ABC stone at 8 inches, then 468 tons of I19.0C binder at 2.5 inches, then 281 tons of S9.5C surface at 1.5 inches. A separate 7,620 square feet was milled an inch and a half and resurfaced rather than rebuilt, because that area did not need taking back to base.

A 1.5 inch curb reveal was left on the new construction so the surface course would finish flush against the kerb rather than standing proud of it or sitting below it.

The logistics are the part that does not show in a photograph. 13 asphalt trucks across two days and 9 stone trucks across three, into a site with a drive-through that wraps the building. A restaurant of this format takes most of its trade through that lane, so the sequencing question is never how fast the paving can go down, it is which part of the site can be closed at which hour.
